Facing the resistance…. Morning walk musings.

What’s stopping you?

So I’ve been doing a challenge recently where I aim to show up daily on social media with a walking and talking type post. The brief is to chat to the audience (you) as though I am telling you about something on my mind, to do with my business or life or whatever, and you are a fellow walker also puffing away beside me.  The aim is to get comfortable putting one’s  face out there, (so you will know I am actually a real person) and also to get my butt into shape by moving every day.

Anyway - by day about 4 I reached a bit of a crisis.  I hated seeing myself or listening to myself and had a good imaginative session thinking about what all my friends, neighbours, aquaintences etc - right down to “Janet in accounts” was thinking about me.   Honestly.  I don’t know anyone called Janet, nor do I have an accounts department  (although I probably should) so of course Janet from accounts is a mythical representation of that person who pops up in your head anytime you put yourself out there into the world and does a good job of stopping your. of course I doubt anyone is spending much time nitpicking my posts. They may have even learn something!

So I have posted another video talking about that little voice in your head that tends to stop you whenever you get out of your comfort zone. It is in fact a major reason we don’t reach our goals in life. Its behind what we call self-sabotage, delay, procrastination or any other avoidance activity we engage in a short time after we embark on some life improvement exercise.

It is at the core of the book The Tortoise Diet Method too. How we can actually narrow down the reasons we have failed so miserably at any diet, health or exercise programme we’ve ever been on to this one human characteristic and then how to overcome that.  The first step is recognising it and I should have recognised it in myself the last few days.  I’m glad I am part of a small accountability group around this challenge as once I expressed how I was feeling, Sarah Cordiner and the other challengers were able to give some good wise advice and so I am back.

Who knows what I am going to say next? (Not me).
